Cupcake Deal on Groupon on Bites Baker

There was an article in the Toronto Star today about a  baker in London who got  more than she bargained for when she offered cupcake deals through Groupon. I guess the goal was to drum up business but it backfired and ended costing her $20,000.  Ouch! Read all about it here:

VW Beetle Car Cake

This cake was carved out of a chocolate cake. Making it was a little more challenging than I had anticipated. It took a while to get all the curves right. Glad at the outcome after all the hours spent on bringing the cake to life.

Cupcakes with edible autumn leaves

The cupcakes were red velvet and were frosted with cream cheese. The edible autumn leaves were made out of rolled fondant that was coloured with food gel.

This cake was made to celebrate the first birthday of a little guy. All animals are hand-modelled and edible.

 

70th Birthday Cake

A small cake to celebrate a wondeful mother's 70th birthday. Happy birthday, Mum!

Sweet 16th Birthday Cake

A 2-tier marble cake filled with buttercream for a 16th birthday.

The client was very happy and we received a picture of the celebrant cutting the cake.

Floral Cake

A red velvet cake for a 47th birthday. Covered in fondant, adorned with edible spring flowers and dragonflies.

Mini Cakes for a Baby Shower

These mini cakes were a combinaton of Red Velvet and Lemon cakes. Each cake flavour was filled with buttercream and frosted with rolled fondant.

Brown polka dots and ribbon were used to decorate the cakes for a baby shower. They were used as favours at the event.

Scrapbook Cake

This was a chocolate cake made to look like a scrapbook for a lady who enjoys the craft.

Cake Decorating Classes

Starting July 9, 2011


This summer, we are offering a series of hands-on cake decorating classes for different age groups and skill levels.

For the cake enthusiast,  you have the options to learn

• the basics of using rolled fondant to decorate cakes
• how to make gum-paste booties for a baby shower cake
• how to sculpt a handbag from a cake
• how t o make a shopping bag cake
• how to make a 3D car cake.

For tweens, we have a  cupcake decorating class.

Teens can learn how to make a daisy purse cake.

Classes are limited to  six participants to allow the instructor to give participants individual attention. Come join us in one of our fun-filled classes. Come alone, bring a friend, or give the gift of a cake decorating class.

Designer Handbag Cake

A designer handbag cake for a birthday. Our popular vanilla cake filled with the house buttercream.

Cake Crumbcoated

Checkerboard pattern painted on cake using a brush and some luster dust.

Cake fully decorated with  handles, buckles, and zipper.

Black and White Confirmation Cake

3-Tier cake of chocolate, vanilla, and lemon flavours for a confirmation. Butterflies were made from gumpaste.

Sitting SpongeBob SquarePants cake

Vanilla and chocolate cakes filled with our house buttercream.

SpongeBob was made from an 11X15 inch cake cut into 3 equal parts. Drove dowels through all layers to secure the cake on the board. Frosted with crusting buttercream. Delivery was a bit tricky but it made it to the location safely.

3D Elmo Cake

A first  birthday cake for a cute guy. Both cakes were our princess confetti flavour filled with buttercream.

Elmo was all edible - head, legs, and arms made from cereal treats.

First Birthday Cake

Okay, this cake was first made for Julia's first birthday three years ago. Julia now has a baby sister and her mom wanted the same cake design for Christiana's first birthday cake. We must be doing something right!

Michael Jackson-themed Cake

This was made for a great Michael Jackson fan.

Police Officer Cap Cake

It's been a while since I posted anything.

A few weeks ago, we made this police cap cake for a lady officer's graduation.

When the young daughters came with their dad to pick up the cake, one of them said: "Is this a cake?" To us, nothing says a job well done more than that!

Elmo and Jungle Elephant Cake

 When we received a request for this cake for a little guy who was turning one, and told about his favourite TV characters, we made a suggestion to incorporate both on his cake. The little guy loves Elmo (who doesn't) and the jungle elephant from Elepant song. Here is what we did.

MG Car Cake

This cake was ordered by a mom for her son's 30th birthday. At pickup time, the client gave me a tight hug to express how happy she was about it. I wish I had a camera to capture her expression - it was priceless!

Ferrari Car cake

This cake was carved from a chocolate sheet cake filled with buttercream. We did not know that the client who ordered the cake had reservations about out ability to make it until she came to pick it up. She said she was worried we might not do it  right because we had not made a Ferrari car cake before this one. We are glad to say that she was pleasantly surprised at pickup time, and confessed that the cake was a lot better than the ones in the pictures she sent to us.

Another Hamburger and Fries Cake!

Here is another hamburger and fries cake we made last weekend. A vanilla cake filled with vanilla bean buttercream. All accents made with the Essence Deluxe Rolled Fondant.
Will be doing a demo on how to make this cake this on Saturday.

BMW Car Cake

This cake was made for a BMW car enthusiast. He owns a couple of them and was contemplating getting another one when the wife said "No Way". To make up, sister orders another one for him in cake on his birthday.

Chocolate mocha cake filled with ganache. Frosted with the Essence Deluxe Ice Rolled Fondant.

Cake was dusted with blue lustre dust to get the requested colour.

Baby Shower Cake with Gumpaste Booties

This cake was ordered by a repeat customer. How we love them at Essence Cakes!
A vanilla cake - the bottom tier was filled with chocolate ganache and the top tier had vanilla buttercream filling.
Pink, Green,  and White colours. Daises and baby booties made from gumpaste.
